In April the town of West, in the state of Texas, USA, was damaged by several explosions at a chemical plant that produced fertilizers. The town, which has a population of 3000, was severely affected by this huge disaster that was equivalent to a natural disaster such as a tornado or hurricane.

The majority of the population of the town has Czech roots and even organizes an annual Czech expatriate festival, which is one of the reasons the Czech-based global company Y Soft was among the thousands of donors who donated to the West Texas Disaster Relief Fund.

Y Soft North America, Inc. is also located in Texas. This Y Soft branch employs more than 10 people, who did not hesitate to become actively involved in the voluntary collection of financial donations to the relief fund. The Y Soft employees themselves organized the collection of donations. "Our initiative arose spontaneously after the initial reports of this tragedy. In our office we agreed that we do collection. Once management in the Czech Republic learned about this initiative, they proposed to support our collection immediately. We agreed that every dollar that employees of Y Soft in North America devoted, the parent company would double," said Tomas Vasicek, Head of Sales for Americas, Asia, and Pacific region. Y Soft donated $1000 to the town of West.

West is only slowly recovering from the disaster. People are cleaning up the remains of the wreckage and trying to restore the town to normal life. "We consider sending a volunteer clean-up patrol to join forces with people cleaning damaged ruins and infrastructure. We are working directly with the Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic Raymond J. Snokhous in the region to determine how we can be the most helpful," said Vasicek during the formal check handover.
