Dubai Design Week was recently celebrated from October 24-29th. Included in the celebration was ‘The Makers’ event located in Alserkal Avenue in Dubai’s industrial quarter. This area has become the design hub of Dubai since 2007.

The Makers event supports the development of the crossover of old and new methods of manufacturing, giving creative people a chance to express their ideas while providing others with a broad learning experience into creative industries they may never have imagined being exposed.

From 3D printing to hand crafted jewelry and engineers building customized coffee machines, The Makers and Alserkal Avenue had something for everyone whether you are looking for new business ideas or just looking for a very cool place to hang out, relax and pass the time.

Alserkal Avenue
The Avenue is a cluster of architect-designed warehouses. Initially a group of 20 warehouses, they have welcomed several new galleries and creative businesses. Spread across 500,000 square feet, Alserkal Avenue now houses numerous galleries of international repute, dynamic art spaces and homegrown cultural initiatives.

Alserkal Avenue wears a number of different hats: in addition to being a geographical center for Dubai’s fast-growing creative community, Alserkal Avenue are keen supporters of the MENASA’s (Middle East, North Africa, South Asia) burgeoning contemporary art scene, encouraging artists from the region and bringing their work to the attention of an international audience.

3D Printing in Dubai
Y Soft Middle East managed to catch up with one of our partners, Atlab, at the Makers event. Atlab was displaying Y Soft’s 3D printers and, along with our video, they explained to visitors the benefits of the YSoft be3D eDee 3D print management solution for educational institutions.

As 3D printing develops rapidly across the United Arab Emirates under the direction of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s incentive programs, Y Soft and Atlab are working together to support the educational sector with 2D and 3D print management solutions.
