Hitting the road with YSoft be3D eDee

7 cities and 300 educators from 200 schools – that is how many people attended a unique roadshow event called EduTek a few weeks ago in the Czech Republic. And Y Soft was there as well with its YSoft be3D eDee solution for 3D print management in education. Read on to find out about educator's feedback on our innovations.
7 cities and 300 educators from 200 schools – that is how many people attended a unique roadshow event called EduTek a few weeks ago in the Czech Republic. The main goal of EduTek was to provide guidance to schools for securing funding for modern technologies in order to modernize their education processes.
Y Soft partnered with the event organizers and became one of the exhibitors that accompanied the main program on the road to provide teachers with insights on the newest and hottest trends in educations such as virtual reality, Internet of Things and 3D printing.

As for 3D printing, Y Soft used the opportunity to share with Czech educators  YSoft be3D eDee, a 3D print management solution for education. With two 3D printers and one 2D printing machine, we demonstrated how YSoft be3D eDee  with integrated print management features can be extended across a school’s entire fleet of 3D and 2D printers. With eDee, IT admins get the same benefits for both types of devices like an authentication system to manage access, cost management tools, and Print Roaming so students could print their models from any eDee printer at the school. And from the IT admin’s perspective, these features work similarly or even identically with a consistent user interface making the management of 2D and 3D printers easy.

Students and faculty also have a similar experience when accessing their existing 2D printers and 3D printers from Y Soft. For example, enabling authentication works by entering a username/password, a PIN or swiping their student ID card). This consistent access across all print devices gained the most attention at Y Soft’s exhibition area. Visitors also praised the enclosed construction and lockable doors of the YSoft be3D eDee printer which unlocks only when the user logs in. The main benefits of lockable doors are safety and security as no moving parts of the device are exposed to students and it is not possible for anyone to stop running the print job or to take the finished 3D model except the rightful job owner or school administrator.

The YSoft be3D eDee print management solution’s features have been received well especially by educators who have had 3D printers and tell us their horror stories:  having to lock the 3D printer in a cage or placing a piggy-bank next to the printer as a cost recovery solution (to cover the cost of  filaments). It might sound silly for 2017 but these stories  are sad but true and just confirm what we found out through our one year study and recent independent global survey – schools need a print management solution to so that direct access to 3D printers can be given to students who need them for enhancing their learning experience and the tools school’s need to manage and justify costs.
