Familiarize Yourself with Its Contents
- MFX4 Ultimate Reader
- Samples of RFID cards, fobs, and stickers
- USB cables and mounting accessories
- The YSoft Card Reader Tool
Identify Card Technology and Match to Y Soft Products
- Connect the reader to your laptop. Start the "YSoft Card Reader Tool" (Download from the Partner Portal Library)
- Select the "Card Testing" module and make sure you choose the correct reader. Place the customer’s card on the testing bracket to read the information of the card
- The tool will list detected card technologies (e.g., HID Prox, LEGIC Advant), card numbers for each transponder, and compatible Y Soft card readers
- Choose the reader that can read the required technology and any secondary tech the customer might use in the future — often the MFX Ultimate covers both
Set Up Your Own Configuration Card
- Use the provided cards in your briefcase (additional cards can be ordered if needed)*
- Define the configuration in the tool: Select protocols, security settings, and custom parameters
Create a Custom Configuration:
- Enter the "custom configuration editor" if you require a number conversion
- Start from a recommended protocol preset (e.g., P93 HID Prox Only)
- Use the "Auto Conversion Detection" feature and swipe at least three customer cards
- Enter the card numbers obtained from the customer
- Click Find Conversions to apply the correct format transformation
- Test the configuration on the reader to confirm it delivers the expected data
Save the Configuration:
- Place a blank configuration card on the reader
- Press “Write to Configuration Card” to activate. It will write the configuration (stored encrypted, only usable by Y Soft readers) on the selected configuration card
* If additional cards are needed, you can easily format a blank card using the Card Reader Tool’s "Format Cards" function. This erases previous data and prepares the card for configuration.
Set Up the Card Reader Using a Configuration Card
- Connect and mount the card reader to your MFD or workstation (no power-down necessary)
- Plug in the reader. Status LEDs will indicate basic operation
- Place the configuration card on the reader. The reader will accept the settings from the card within seconds, customizing reader behavior for your environment
- Validate your setup by running a test swipe with an end-user’s card. The output should appear in the correct format, reflecting the parameters set via your configuration card (Irrelevant card types are ignored)
Extract Information Needed for Troubleshooting
- Gather Logs: Export reader logs and configuration details directly from the card reader tool
- Extract Data: Extract information about detected technology, raw/converted output, reader firmware version, error logs, and used protocol. The data can be sent to Y Soft or used internally for configuration fixes and replacement
- Access Logs: For broader troubleshooting, use the SAFEQ Cloud Client or admin interface to collect diagnostic data and export comprehensive log files for analysis
Use the Reader for Mobile Authentication
Start by downloading the YSoft Mobile Connect App on your smartphone (iOS or Android).
- Set Up Credentials: Register your phone with your organization’s Y Soft Connect ID via the app. You can access your mobile credentials directly from a printed card or sticker or digitally via email. Y Soft supports digital mobile credentials delivery for both SAFEQ6 and SAFEQ Cloud (the Cloud version will be available in September 2025)
- Enable Bluetooth/NFC: Ensure your phone settings allow for close-range communication
- Authenticate: Launch the app, select “Authenticate,” and place your phone near the reader. Your phone’s credentials will be used securely, with support for two-factor authentication (PIN/biometric plus device)
- Supported Use Cases: Mobile authentication works for print releases (contactless printing), supporting most existing Y Soft and industry-standard readers
