Improving reporting with Data Mart mode

We are creating 2.5 quintillion bytes of data every day, and this rate of growth is increasing. Challenges around ubiquitous data include the associated costs and complications of storing it but more importantly, as the volume of data increases so do the complexities of using that data for reporting. Response times and granularity can both be impacted as systems struggle to process large quantities of data.

YSoft SAFEQ’s reporting module provides in-depth reporting but organizations may have specific reporting requirements or need to integrate with their chosen business intelligence solution provider. This article looks at how YSoft SAFEQ supports the ever-changing reporting requirements of organizations.

Data Mart mode

We have introduced Data Mart mode as part of the YSoft SAFEQ Reporting module. Data Mart mode creates inside the YSoft SAFEQ database an extended reporting data structure that is accessible externally through the SQL API. The well-arranged raw, unaggregated data on print, copy, scan and fax services usage are stored for a longer period - 3 years by default.

This means that you can access unaggregated data quickly and analyze longer time periods, adding valuable insights for your business. While Web Reports in SafeQ Reporting keep unaggregated data by default for 31 days and is suitable for simple regular monthly reporting, with Data Mart mode and an external tool, we can create special detailed reports for periods of months or years.

It is important to understand that Data Mart mode creates additional significant amount of data in the YSoft SAFEQ database and increases load of the database engine. Correct hardware sizing is necessary before Data Mart mode is switched on. Storage capacity and database computing power is the limiting factor.

Business Intelligence mapping

Organizations that need to analyze print services activity to a more granular level or use a wide variety of charts, graphs or dashboards often use business intelligence software such as Microsoft PowerBI or Tableau. YSoft SAFEQ can help you here too. You can easily map your organization’s YSoft SAFEQ database schema (Data Mart) to your business intelligence software and align your print services reporting with the rest of your organization’s reports.

Y Soft provides a template for Microsoft PowerBI as a sample of SQL API utilization. Skilled Excel users can create scripts for flowing data into Excel templates as well.

We would love to hear from you and the reports you would like to see in YSoft SAFEQ Reporting module, please share your comments in the section below.
