It’s an exciting day here at Y Soft. YSoft Labs is taking the first step in our cloud-first strategy by working with select partners and SMBs to beta test a new cloud-based print management-as-a-service project.
This YSoft Labs project has been underway and it’s finally time to start talking about it!

The beta project is called YSoft SAFEQ Breeze, a service that offers the core features of print management: authentication, pull-printing and reporting.

Our heads have been in the cloud all along

The lure of the cloud began for us well before 2016 as we were developing YSoft SAFEQ 6. With its building block architecture, introduced in 2016, customers began using the private cloud (or a combination of private cloud and on-premise) as their infrastructure choice for print management and document capture. But the idea to go truly server-less has a lot of appeal for customers, partners and for us too. And, so our investment in our building block architecture is really paying off as our architecture design and ability to support multiple tenants applies to a cloud hosted service.

Certainly, IT burden is lowered when the entire print infrastructure is in the cloud – no more expensive servers, maintenance and the hassle of setting up print queues and supporting various print drivers. But it goes deeper than that.

Cloud+Edge is the future

Customers have told us, and additional research has confirmed, that businesses have concerns about the privacy and security of their documents when processed in the cloud. And what about all that network traffic going up to the cloud and back in order to process a print job? In addition to clogging up the network, processing purely in the cloud increases bandwidth costs. Furthermore, locations that experience poor or inconsistent Internet service really would struggle.

It’s why we believe that cloud print management with edge computing is the future. With YSoft SAFEQ Breeze, we are combining reduced costs and hassle-free IT with the benefits of document security/privacy, with locally spooled print jobs to keep customer’s precious data safe – all without the network, bandwidth and poor internet constraints. And we are doing it through a complete bundle of services and support.

“IDC’s research shows that SMB customers understand the benefits of MPS and print management, but often hold back due to perceived disruptions in service and the added costs associated with print servers and software licenses,” says Robert Palmer, research VP for IDC’s Imaging, Printing, and Document Solutions group. “With YSoft SAFEQEdge Core (now known as YSoft SAFEQ Breeze), Y Soft will enable SMBs to gain better control over their print environment much quicker and with less up-front investment compared with traditional on-premises solutions.”
